World Kidney Day is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF). Their mission is to raise awareness of the important role that kidneys play in our overall health and to inform the public of the link between high blood pressure, kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.
In support of this initiative, employees from Fresenius Medical Care Australia held a kidney health awareness event on 8 March 2012. They set up booths in different public locations and provided education to the public on maintaining kidney health. The booths were designed to be highly interactive with nurses offering a free blood pressure tests.
The day was a resounding success with staff conducting over 500 free blood pressure measurements and speaking to hundreds more about the importance of kidney health.
